There will be two events on the opening day of the festival, the 8th of May 2018. Wonderful sound of Charlott Wassy Quintet, which embodies traditional rhythms of Camerum and France, will perform for the first time in Turkey thanks to the contributions of French Cultural Center and Samm’s Bistro. The performance will be at 21:30.
A graphic design exhibition will take place at Bilkent Center Shopping Mall and works that Bilkent University graphic design students created for the 22nd edition of the festival will be displayed. The exhibition will be free to enter between 8-18 May.
“Bilkent Station Festival Area” will be set up during the evening of 9th of May and Karsu Plays Atlantic Records “Ahmet Ertegün Anısına” project will take the stage for the first time, setting the festival light ablaze. The performance will start at 20:00.
The festival was designed with the theme “Women and Jazz” in mind. Jazz Foundation has been organizing the festival for the past 21 years as a non-governmental organization, and wishes to present the 22nd edition as a gift to all women as it keeps the doors of hope open.
There will be exhibitions, workshops and panels between 9-12 May in “Bilkent Station Festival Area” as well as performances by our esteemed female musicians on the open-air stage at 20:00 in the evenings. This will be followed by club performances at BİS by New Castle and Samm’s Bistro throughout the festival’s duration.
Turkish Naval Forces Starts Orchestra and Yıldız İbrahimova, Ülkü Aybala Sunat and Su İdil will give a free concert at “Tepe Prime Avenue” on the 13th of May, Mother’s Day.
Aga Derlak Trio, lead by the talented and young pianist Aga Derlak, will perform at Samm’s Bistro the same evening with the sponsorship of Polish Embassy. This will be festival’s closing performance.
We will “scream” our feelings during this festival by commemorating all our female musicians and artists who contributed to arts and sciences and have touched the world of jazz by their impressive works.
