Ankara Jazz Festival, one of the oldest festivals in Turkey, will take place between 26 April – 12 May 2019.
The festival presents a different theme each year to its audience and puts emphasis on important subjects through jazz.
Özlem Oktar Varoğlu, the festival curator and president of the Jazz Foundation, summarizes the theme they came up with while designing the festival as such: “As a non-governmental organization, we aim to react to a social situation through the means of the festival and underline the fact that arts and community cannot be separated. We decided that 2019 should welcome the theme of Gender Equality and chose Duets to represent this topic. Our goal is to show a woman and a man can share a stage in #equal conditions and to make this ‘visible’. Women and men should be equals in every field, it cannot be thought otherwise. Even though this is just a drop in the ocean, we invite your participation to our festival so that we can focus on this worthy topic.”
The 23rd edition of Ankara Jazz Festival will embody projects specifically prepared for this occasion which will allow male and female vocalists to sing together on the same stage as they are accompanied by esteemed orchestras.
We would like to thank all our audiences, musicians, sponsors and especially the members of the media for this festival we have been supporting together for the past 23 years in Ankara, to bring it to the cultural level it deserves to be at as the Capital City. As always, members of the media are invited to all of the concerts.
