Bernie Glow was acknowledged for many years by most other trumpet players as the best lead man in New York. Besides his superior musicianship , his sunny nature was greatly appreciated by the musicians he played with. On a studio date one day, one of his section mates was wondering aloud why a certain contractor doesn’t call him any more.
“I hope I haven’t offended him somehow.”
Bernie tells him, “I never worry about that sort of thing. I figure, if they don’t want the best, then the hell with them!”
“Boy,” says his band mate, “I wish I could feel that way.”
“No, you can’t feel that way,” smiles Bernie, “you’re NOT the best!”
