All the stages of Zorlu PSM will become pinnacles of jazz, blues, electronic, rock and many other genres of music with Zorlu Jazz Festival between May 3rd and 12th. Along with musical performances, the festival will also include concept parties, panels and workshops. Many prominent names of jazz will be hosted at Zorlu PSM Jazz Festival and LP markets, open air acitivities, film and documentary screenings will also take part.
Organized for the first time this year, Zorlu PSM Jazz Festival will bring a fresh breath to the culture-arts scene of Istanbul. Grammy award winning pianist Michel Camilo will share the stage with the flamenco virtuoso Tomatito on the 3rd of May. Performances by Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek (May 5th) and Stephan Micus (May 10th) who is known for playing many different instruments from different cultures will also be included in the festival program.
Multicultural Projects to Make Their Mark at the Festival
The other vibrant performances included in the festival program are Canadian band Esmerine (May 4th) which infuses minimalist classical music with post-rock, German musician, producer and conceptual artist Pantha du Prince (May 6th), Gülün /Allulli / De Raymondi (May 9th) who came up with this multicultural project following years of friendship and American indie/chamber pop and bossa nova band Brazzaville (May 5th) that has a big following in Turkey.
Virtuosos on the Stage!
Living jazz legend Chick Corea (May 12th) will perform during Zorlu PSM Jazz Festival, accompanied by American jazz drummer Brian Blade and Puerto Rican jazz double bass player Eddie Gomez on the Main Theater. Multi-instrumentalist Beth Hart (May 10th) will also perform on the same stage and meet her fans. Okay Temiz (May 8th) who combines jazz with Turkish folklore and sufi music with his project Oriental Wind will also perform during the festival. Performances by local musicians Önder Focan & Şallıel Bros (May 11th), Redd (May 11th), Gaye Su Akyol (May 3rd) and Esra Kayıkçı (May 4th) can also be enjoyed during Zorlu PSM Jazz Festival, as well as many other activities that will take place within the festival program.
Lost Songs of Anatolia “Live” Project Will Also be Performed at the Festival…
Originally a documentary produced and directed by Nezih Ünen Anadolu’nun Kayıp Şarkıları (Lost Songs of Anatolia), which received critical acclaim in Turkey and around the world after it was released in 2009, will be performed on stage on the 7th of May accompanied by scenes from the documentary. A project aiming to promote the musics of Anatolia will present unique arrangements from different regions. The orchestra will feature esteemed musicians of Turkey, such as Alp Ersönmez and Serhat Ersöz, who also arranged the songs. The director of the documentary Nezih Ünen will play the saxophone and keyboard, with Sarp Maden, İzzet Kızıl, Mert Önal, Hasan Gözetlik, Göksün Çavdar and Ali Yılmaz rounding up the crew.
