The 18th International Gümüşlük Music Festival will start on the 24th of July, Saturday evening, in Antique Stone Quarry. The regulations for Covid-19 pandemic will be followed completely. The opening concert will feature State Artist pianist Gülsin Onay and Ancyra Ensemble, and will be conducted by maestro Nisan Ak.
Where were we!
The wounds caused by the pandemic will be dressed with music and the festival picks up where it left off last year.
The festival follows three concepts every year in Bodrum, Muğla: ‘On the Water’, ‘On Sand’ and ‘On Stone’. There will be 17 concerts taking place this year along with 2 professional student concerts and 2 DJ performances.
The 2500-year old stone quarry, Zefirya Cultural Center, the festival center on Gümüşlük Beach and ‘Toprak Ev’ will host these concerts. Piano and cello masterclasses will take place thanks to the Gümüşlük Festival Academy.
Star Parade in Gümüşlük
Artists from all over the world will come to Gümüşlük to take part in this 5-week program. Ancyra Ensemble’s opening concert will be followed by North Sea String Quartet from Holland, young pianist Kisuk Kwon from South Korea, Meral Polat Jazz Trio from Holland, Spanist pianist Pablo Galdo, Georgian pianist Valerian Shiukashvili, Nova Trio consisting of violin, cello and piano, pianist Barış Büyükyıldırım, Hakan Başar Jazz Trio, Trio Likya consisting of violin, cello and piano, Serbian pianist Zoran İmsirovic, Elif Çağlar Jazz Quartet, French cellist Henri Demarquette and pianist Özgür Ünaldı, and Trio Reijseger Fraanje Sylla from Holland.
The festival will continue with Israeli cellist Maya Belsitzman and percussionist Matan Ephrat. Mx. Sür Q-BRA (Kübra Uzun) and DJ Lakuti from Germany will give DJ performances on the 13-14th of August. 18th International Gümüşlük Music Festival will end with El Ele Music Symphony Orchestra, pianist İlyun Burkev and violinist Naz İrem Türkmen’s concert in the Antique Stone Quarry.
Opportunities for young musicians
The festival will feature three very young musicians this year. 16-year old Hakan Başar, 12-year old İlyun Burkev and 15-year old Naz İrem Türkmen attracted attention with their great successes. Pandemic era has been tough on young musicians. The festival gives these young musicians an opportunity to perform on a stage in the beginning of their careers.
Barış Büyükyıldırım will lead the masterclass that will start on the 28th of June, aiming to bring students together in a professional setting after a long break from collective performances and concerts due to the pandemic.
