One of the most anticipated events of summer, Bozcaada Jazz Festival’s 5th edition will take place between 20-22 August 2021 with the support of The Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Turkey Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA), organized by 3dots and fermente.
Bozcaada Jazz Festival is sponsored by Kendine Has, Volkswagen, Jack Lives Here and Metro Türkiye and features a rich music content as well as interdisciplinary KEŞİF program, bringing together masters of jazz and young musicians physically together in Bozcaada on the online platform of the festival.
Bozcaada Jazz Festival has received much acclaim since the year of its founding thanks to the cultural and artistic experience it provides, as well as due to its direct connection to the island it takes place on. The festival will celebrate its 5th anniversary this year.
The festival has been taking place within the breathtaking nature of Bozcaada since 2017 and united international musicians from different generations with the listeners while also featuring an inclusive program that highlights various disciplines such as contemporary art and gastronomy. It provides the participants breathing space without harming Bozcaada’s nature and making sure to make permanent and sustainable contributions.
Bozcaada Jazz Festival invites everyone to be in the ‘flow’!
Bozcaada Festival invites the participants to be in the moment with awareness, taking its inspiration from the idea of ‘autotelic’ that follows psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi’s concept of ‘flow’ which takes a person out of their comfort zone away from daily events through activities that trigger happiness as it relates to the speeding of the passing of time.
Autotelic means a thing is its own aim and can be described as an altered perception of time within a state of flow in which the quality of the experience and action in question is heightened, the concentration of the subject is high as they are in the moment and are aware. Self-awareness disappears in this autonomy which can be achieved temporarily, alluding to musicians in the moment of improvisation.
Taking this concept as the starting point; “What are the similarities between Albert Einstein and Miles Davis? Is there a connection between the relativity theory and playing the solo of the piece ‘So What’? What are the elements contributing to the moments that make us happy? How can the loss of self-awareness during an autotelic action be defined?” and similar questions will be the festival’s focus, opening them up to discussion for the artists, participants, staff and island’s inhibitors to partake as they discover this state of flow.
Accessible, egalitarian and environment-friendly festival model
Bozcaada Jazz Festival underlines important subjects such as accessibility, social gender equality and ecological transformation as it continues to work with experts on the subject to create awareness. The festival aims to create awareness on upcycling, making sure to create an accessible space both through physical arrangements and training given to the festival staff. Bozcaada Jazz Festival works to be accessible in every sense of the word, becoming a member of Europe Jazz Network in 2019 and Turkey Jazz Network in 2020.
