This past spring, our Istanbulite friend pianist Jef Giansily performed in Turkey with his new project “Insight.” Following two highly acclaimed concerts at the Izmir Jazz Festival and in Ankara, he played to a packed Nardis Jazz Club in Istanbul, alongside the members of his quintet: Hermon Mehari, Darrell Green, Pierre Bernier, and our brother, Turkish-by-adoption bassist Apostolos Sideris.
The highlight of the night came from Jef again; An opportunity to invite his son Can-Matteo (born and raised in Istanbul) to sit in with the band, closing out the first set.
Can-Matteo Giansily, 16 years old, has been familiar with the language of jazz since his childhood. Currently a student of French Regional Conservatory “Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional” (CRR) studying classical piano (DEM), as the only student taking lessons remotely from abroad.
