“Young Jazz 21” album, prepared with the cooperation of Istanbul Jazz Festival and Mehmet Uluğ fund is on all digital platforms from 17th of December.
This year, the Istanbul Jazz Festival gives a new meaning to the Young Jazz tradition it has continued for 19 years. The recordings of 5 groups, which were among the Young Jazz finalists of the 28th Istanbul Jazz Festival held in 2021, were brought together for the first time in a professional album called “Young Jazz 21”. The album will be available on all digital platforms on 17th of December with the support of İKSV and Sony Music Turkey label and Mehmet Uluğ Fund.
Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) with the sponsorship of Garanti BBVA, the Istanbul Jazz Festival initiated the Young Jazz project for the first time this year in order to create a platform where young musicians and ensembles in Turkey, that are amateur or semi-professional, can take part in the festival program. The Young Jazz project has made a special album with the collaboration of musicians selected for Young Jazz concerts.
The Young Jazz 21 album includes one piece from each of the 2021 Young Jazz finalists that are under the age of 30 who have not released a professional album, determined by the Young Jazz selection committee among the applications, from the groups Cazcuz, August, Deniz Akan Trio, Gökhan Ulusoy Trio and Kick the Switch. Virtuoso musicians Volkan Öktem, Önder Focan, Selen Gülün, Cenk Erdoğan and Okan Kaya accompanied and supported the young jazz musicians in the recordings made at Babajım Istanbul Studios and with the support of the Mehmet Uluğ Fund, in the memory of the musician Mehmet Uluğ alive. Arın Baykurt is the recording and mixing engineer, and Güven Ersoysal is the mastering engineer. Photographs of the album belong to photographer Muhsin Akgün, and the promotional texts of the group and album belong to Burak Sülünbaz.
Genç Jazz 21 (Young Jazz 21) album, in collaboration with Sony Music Turkey and İKSV, will be available on all digital platforms and İKSV YouTube page as of December 17th.
