French-Italian singer, songwriter and harmonica player Charles Pasi, who gave his first concerts in Turkey at the end of 2018, is coming back to Istanbul, the city where his music is most listened to on Spotify after his hometown Paris. The reunion, which was delayed by the pandemic, will take place on Wednesday, May 10th in the wonderful atmosphere of Museum Gazhane, illuminated by candles, as part of the ‘Hava Kararınca’ series. The concert starts at 8:00 PM and is free.
Charles Pasi has never been interested in labelling his music. He makes the music that comes from within and if necessary, he leaves it to the listeners to name it. His music carries all these influences of soul, jazz, funk, blues, and rock, but he loves to play with forms and surprises too, and this is where his uniqueness comes from. He uses familiar ingredients, but the fusion that he puts out through his own kitchen, carries the signature of a gourmet chef with his steamy vocals and his trademark harmonica playing. The lyrics that he writes in English are mostly fun, rhythmic, life-teasing, sometimes dark, yet the melodies are just colourful.
With no noise, no insane media campaigns behind him, this makes it already over 20 years that Charles Pasi has been skirting around the codes, slaloming through the gates of the obvious, to write his own destiny. With a harmonica, a pen, a heart that overflows, and the feeling that this is what he`s here for. His music has this rare faculty of being able to convene all those still capable of being moved.
After his first album ‘Mainly Blue’, which relied heavily on blues, he reached wider audiences with ‘Uncaged’ in 2011, which featured American saxophonist Archie Shepp in two songs, and his third album ‘Sometimes Awake’, released in 2014. In late 2017, his fourth album and the first under his contract with Blue Note (Universal Media Group), ‘Bricks’, was released with the Decca Records label. Charles Pasi became the first living French singer signed to the record label managed by the legendary producer Don Was.
Charles Pasi’s fifth album, ‘Zebra’, also from Decca Records, was released in February 2021. The artist is in the studio for his upcoming album, which will be released by Blue Note again in 2024.
