Sarp Maden’s new album ‘Aperlai’ was released by Lycia Records/ Space Goats on digital platforms on the 5th of February.
‘Aperlai’, recorded during the pandemic, features prominent musicians such as Volkan Öktem, Eylem Pelit, Cengiz Baysal and Halil Çağlar Serin. Sarp Maden describes the album as “an expression of the associations created by some places and people in my past”. ‘Aperlai’ has been released on the 5th of February by Lycia Records / Space Goats. Sarp Maden is known through his work as a composer and guitarist as well as his contributions to projects such as MadenÖktemErsönmez and Lost Songs of Anatolia. The musician’s previous album ‘Waning Moon’ was released in 2017. Musicians who breathed life into the pieces featured in Aperlai with their instruments are well known artists. Volkan Öktem and Cengiz Baysal are on the drums, Eylem Pelit who has been Sarp Maden’s friend for 30 years and young talent Halil Çağlar Serin are on the bass and Ercüment Orkut plays the keys with his masterful touch. Aperlai gives a glimpse of Sarp Maden’s memories in each piece. 119/5 is the door number of his house in Cihangir where he lived for many years, Urgayt Ayturg tells the story of the moment this piece took shape at Mitanni Cafe’s owner Turgay Demiryürek’s house, Aperlai tells of the “magical” antic city in Lycia, Kekova, where the artist has visited many times, Lost & Found is the story of writing a piece down in one sitting only to lose the notes—then finding them again after a long time, Treptower Park tells about his memories during the car ride from the airport to the city when he was visiting Berlin for the first time, Allan Together of Allan Holdsworth, one of his favorite guitarists, Quan Ba of the unique geography in Northern Vietnam.
Sarp Maden’s new album ‘Aperlai’ was mixed by Mehmet Uğur Memiş, mastered by Selim Sayarı, the exclusive visual design created for Lycia Records carries the signature of Monroe Creative.
